Social media websites like Facebook, Myspace, YouTube and Twitter continue to grow in popularity and now consume more of young people’s time over any other form of media. With this growth, the church must continue to find ways to reach people where they are at. One website that seeks to reach people through this means is I Am Second. Their focus is on video testimonies from celebrities, and engagement through local groups.
While I think websites like these are great, it is still imperative that ministries who invest much of their resources to reach people online still keep a focus on personal relationships and engagement at the local level. It is easy for people this day and age to supplement media (internet, television, etc.), with having a relationship with Christians and churches in their community.
Nonetheless, websites like these are great ways to introduce nonbelievers, who otherwise would not be reached through traditional forms (friend/family member invite to church, revival meetings, local church marketing, etc.)
